Cancellation & Refund Policy
Last updated: 3 January 2026This policy explains your right to withdraw from a course, how to cancel, and how refunds are calculated. It applies to all courses booked through atelierdufrancais.fr or in person at our Paris location, and forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Your 14-day right of withdrawal (EU consumers)
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union enrolling as a private individual, you have the right to withdraw from your course contract within 14 calendar days of the date of enrolment, without giving any reason, in accordance with Directive 2011/83/EU and Articles L221-18 et seq. of the French Consumer Code.
To exercise this right, contact us before the 14-day period expires by email at [email protected] or by post at Atelier du Français SASU, 24 Rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris, France, stating your name, the course booked, and your intention to withdraw. You do not need to use a specific form, but you may use this model statement:
"I, [name], hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for [course name], enrolled on [date]. Reference: [booking reference]."
We will refund all payments received from you within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal notice, using the same payment method you used to pay, unless you request otherwise. If, at your express request, your course started before the withdrawal period ended, you will owe an amount proportionate to the sessions already provided up to the point you told us you were withdrawing.
2. Cancelling after the 14-day period
| When you cancel | What you receive |
|---|---|
| More than 7 days before your course start date | Full refund, minus any €25 administrative fee already disclosed at booking |
| Within 7 days of your course start date, before it begins | 50% refund of the course fee |
| After the course has begun (group or intensive courses) | Pro-rata refund for unused sessions, minus a €25 administrative fee |
| Private tutoring lesson packs | Refund for any unused, unscheduled lessons at any time; scheduled lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are non-refundable |
3. Non-refundable items
Printed materials that have already been dispatched or collected, and official DELF/DALF exam registration fees paid to the Académie once submitted to the exam board, are non-refundable, as these are third-party or consumed costs.
4. Cancellations by the School
If we cancel your course (for example, due to insufficient enrolment, an instructor unavailable for the term, or force majeure) and cannot offer a suitable alternative, you will receive a full refund of any fees paid for that course within 14 days, or a full credit toward another course if you prefer.
5. How refunds are processed
Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method within 14 days of approval. Bank processing times vary; please allow up to 10 additional business days for the refund to appear on your statement.
6. How to request a cancellation or refund
- Email [email protected] with your name, course, and booking reference, or call +33 1 42 78 33 12 during business hours.
- We confirm receipt within 2 business days and calculate any applicable refund based on the table above.
- Approved refunds are processed to your original payment method within 14 days of confirmation.
7. Return address for any physical materials
If you need to return printed course materials as part of a withdrawal, send them to: Atelier du Français SASU, Returns, 24 Rue des Rosiers, 75004 Paris, France. We recommend using a tracked shipping method; return postage is at your own cost unless the materials were faulty or incorrectly supplied.
